● SOIL COMPACTION BY DENSITY
Measuring of density of soil in place is most commonly used to assess whether material used as backfill for roads and underneath structures has been adequately compacted. Compaction is the process of increasing the bulk density of a soil or aggregate by driving out void. For any type of soil, for given amount of compactive effort, the density obtained depends on the moisture content and compacted to optimum effort. Field bulk density could be determined by using core cutter or sand replacement method. By dividing the field bulk density to the maximum dry density of the same source materials, the degree of compaction could be determined.

- Coring test is used to extract sample either for concrete structure or pre-mix road work. Normally in certain cases in-situ concrete structure will need to examined and tested to ensure the concrete remains adequate strength and durability. By using coring method concrete sample could be extracted from concrete structure to be tested using compresive machine.
- In road work industries, coring is very important test to determine the pre-mix thickness as well as compaction. Coring sample could be used also for the extraction bitumen content test.
